Services

Laundry rooms are provided in each building. The washers and dryers use a prepaid laundry card. The first laundry card is provided free. Instructions for adding money to cards is posted in the laundry room. A lost card can be replaced using the same machine. Current costs are: $2.30 to wash and $1.75 to dry.

Guidelines:

  • All washing machines are High Efficiency [HE]. Use HE detergent for best results.
  • Check clothes, especially pockets, before putting them in the washer and dryer.
  • After each use, wipe down the machines and check to be sure nothing has been left behind.
  • Pets are not allowed in laundry rooms.
  • Dryer lint traps must be cleaned after each load. Not doing so can create a fire hazard.

Garbage and Recycling – Castle Arms

The City of North Bay provides a wide variety of waste collection services. To reduce the amount of garbage that goes to the Merrick landfill, the City has a number of diversion programs: blue box recycling, electronic waste, scrap metal, leaf and yard, hazardous waste, mattress recycling and more. Click here to learn more.

Guidelines

  • Everything going down the garbage chute must be in a bag and tied.
  • Never force over-sized objects into the garbage chute. If a bag or object is too big to go down the chute, take it to the garbage room.
  • Don’t put liquids in the garbage chute.
  • Don’t put bottles, boxes or other recyclable items down the chute. Instead, put them in the appropriate recycle bin in the garbage room.
  • Cat litter also has to be brought down to the garbage room in a tied bag. It’s heavy and has a tendency to break open if put down the chute.

Everything that goes into a recycle bin must be clean. Any food waste can contaminate a whole shipment of recycling material and it will end up in the landfill. There are large blue bins for every type of recyclable material in the garbage rooms. Sort garbage and place recyclable materials in the proper bins. Break down boxes and put them against the wall.

Housekeeping and Maintenance

Staff and Tenants share the responsibility for keeping our buildings clean. Apartments are Tenants’ responsibility – including keeping appliances, the inside of the windows, carpets and flooring clean. Staff take care of daily cleaning of the hallways, common rooms, laundry rooms and washrooms.

Housekeepers go into each apartment once a year to complete the following health and safety cleaning:

  • behind the fridge and stove
  • living room and bedroom ceiling fans
  • bathroom and above the stove exhaust fans
  • the outside of solarium windows in Castle Arms buildings 1 and 2

All the windows on the outside of the building [without screens] are scheduled to be cleaned each summer, after the shad fly season.

Pest Control

A monthly inspection is done of all public areas for signs of unwanted pests. To report the sighting of pests [ants, flies, mice] in a public area, or in an apartment, contact the office 705-845-2025. Do NOT use aerosol sprays anywhere to control pests. These can trigger bad allergic reactions.

Snow Removal

Winter snow removal, sanding and salting is provided to keep the parking lot and walkways clear and free of ice. Tenants are responsible for clearing the snow around their vehicle. If a complete parking lot cleaning is needed, a notice is delivered at least 24 hours in advance. Tenants must move their vehicles. Castle Arms is only responsible for cleaning empty spots.

Maintenance/Repairs

Maintenance Work Order forms are in the laundry rooms. Once filled out, they are collected from the locked mailbox every weekday and maintenance/repairs are scheduled.
