Garbage/Recycling

The City of North Bay provides a wide variety of waste collection services. To reduce the amount of garbage that goes to the Merrick landfill, the City has a number of diversion programs: blue box recycling, electronic waste, scrap metal, leaf and yard, hazardous waste, mattress recycling and more. Guidelines

  • Everything going down the garbage chute must be in a bag and tied.
  • Never force over-sized objects into the garbage chute. If a bag or object is too big to go down the chute, take it to the garbage room.
  • Don’t put liquids in the garbage chute.
  • Don’t put bottles, boxes or other recyclable items down the chute. Instead, put them in the appropriate recycle bin in the garbage room.
  • Cat litter also has to be brought down to the garbage room in a tied bag. It’s heavy and has a tendency to break open if put down the chute.

Everything that goes into a recycle bin must be clean. Any food waste can contaminate a whole shipment of recycling material and it will end up in the landfill. There are large blue bins for every type of recyclable material in the garbage rooms. Sort garbage and place recyclable materials in the proper bins. Break down boxes and put them against the wall.
